The Duchess

Directed by Saul Dibb
Released in 2008

Middling. Only worth-watching if you have a fetish for period-movies, the dresses, the manors, the dances, the luxury. The cinematography was also breathtaking. The story was slow and sinuous and even though it was well-acted and directed, in the end, I didn't feel like it was worth the two hours I spent on it. Reminded me greatly of Pakistani dramas: marriage for money, cheating husbands, unhappy wives, anger at having only daughters, the pragmatism of the parents. Yuk.
